Portsmouth’s nine point penalty confirmed by Premier League

• Club administrator makes no headway against board
• Pompey have 10 points with nine games remaining

Portsmouth have had their nine point penalty confirmed at a Premier League board meeting today, despite personal pleas from the administrator not to enforce the sanction.

Andrew Andronikou, the club’s administrator was given the chance to explain his case. It was heard by Sir Dave Richards, the league chairman, its chief executive, Richard Scudamore, and the general secretary, Mike Foster.

However, as expected, the league held to the line that it is bound by its insolvency rules.

Pompey are left with 10 points with nine matches remaining – 17 points from safety.
